The Lady Vikings from East Carbon traveled to Green River Jan. 8 to take on the rival Lady Pirates.
The game was highly competitive through the beginning of the game. The halftime score found the Pirates ahead 13-11.
After the half, the Pirates returned to the floor with the taste of victory on their lips.
The Pirates shut the door to any chance of victory for the Lady Vikings by out scoring East Carbon 21-14 in the second half of play.
The Pirates celebrated a 34-25 point win over the Vikings. This win brings Green River to a 5-6 record thus far this year, while East Carbon’s record is now 6-3.
The key to the Pirates victory came from junior Tawni Bigelow, a key player for the Green River team.
Bigelow, who plays guard, forward, and center for the Vikings scored 22 points for the Pirates, including a half court shot that boosted the Pirates to a non region victory.
Despite the loss for the Vikings, Alaena Preston scored 11 points, while Chelsey Timothy scored five for East Carbon.
The Pirates hope to keep the fire burning throughout the season and intend to set courts on fire in the coming week.
The Vikings also hope to open doors wide open to victory as they run past all competition.
