The Carbon High School girls’ basketball team is sitting on top of the Region 12 standings, heading into its last three games of the regular season. The girls will play against Richfield High School on Tuesday, who sit in the second place spot and served the Dinos their only Region 12 loss earlier this season.
The Dinos’ most recent win came against North Sanpete High School on Thursday. Carbon won the match 49-34, for its 17th win of the season.
The Dinos were able to hold the Hawks to just a mere 11 total points in the first two periods, while scoring 20 of their own. They continued to excel defensively in the third period, winning the period by 10 points. The fourth period got away from the Dinos a bit, as they allowed the Hawks to score 16 points in the period, while only scoring 12 of their own. However, the Dinos’ earlier scoring and lead allowed them to secure the victory.
The Dinos were led by senior Sara Morley and junior Lindsey Blanc, who each scored 12 points in the exchange. The two also led the team in rebounds, with Blanc tallying seven, four offensive and three defensive, and Morley tallying six, two offensive and four defensive.
Carbon, 17-2 overall and 4-1 in Region 12, will play against its closest competitor, Richfield, on the road on Tuesday. Then up for the Dinos is another road game on Friday at Canyon View, before playing the regular-season finale at home against Juab High School on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
