Rest can be a good thing, but too much can leave a team a bit rusty as the Lady eagles showed in their first two conference games of the season. They lost Jan. 10 to NIC 50-66 before heading south and losing to CSI by the score of 69-92. Coach Dave Paur attributed the losses to poor shooting and the long 31 day layover over the Christmas break.
The Eagles didn’t look too bad as the took on NIC on Thursday, Jan. 10. The first half of play remained anyone’s game as the teams headed into the locker room with only 2 points separating them.
But that when the wheels came off for CEU as they went from shooting at a 34 percent pace to hitting only 19 percent of their shots. NIC just kept rolling and the close match-up turned into a 16 point rout.
The CEU scoring was lead by Kendra Dalebout with 14 and Brandi King with 13. Dalebout was 4-5 from beyond the three point arc. Kasey Day came off the bench and pulled in eight rebounds. Maquette Potts had 3 steals.
The hot shooting of CSI quickly put the Eagles in a hole on Saturday. CEU did hold a six point lead short lead early in the contest, but it was hard to hold on to as CSI was hitting 52 percent of their shots. The Eagles were down by 17 by the break.
Paur made some adjustments at the break and CEU played the second half much closer, but the damage had already been done and they couldn’t climb out of the hole they were in. CSI was much tougher in the paint and that was the difference in the game.
Erin Richardson took charge for the Eagles with 19 points. King added 14 points, three were from downtown. Veronica Siquiros came off the bench and contributed 12. CEU had a team total of 23 steals against CSI. But in the end CSI out rebounded CEU 67-35.
The team played at home last weekend and those scores will be followed up on Thursday. The team will play Colorado Northwestern on Saturday at the B-DAC at 1 p.m. The Men’s game will follow at 3 p.m.
This last weekend the same fate met the Lady Eagles as they played Salt Lake Community College. The Ladies dropped the contest 70-57 with Kendra Dalebout putting up their loan bright spot with 17 points while going three for three from the line.
