Carbon native appointed to position

John Borla

A key personnel change within its operations management was announced by Foundation Coal Holdings, Inc. involving the appointment of Carbon County native John Borla as vice president of Operations.
Foundation Coal is a major U. S. coal producer with 13 mines and related facilities in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wyoming. The company employs approximately 3,000 people and produces 72 million tons of coal annually.
Borla has been the technical services Ssuperintendent for Foundation Coal’s affiliate in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming centered in Gillette. He has an undergraduate degree in mining engineering and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Utah. He also has his Professional Engineer license. Prior to entering the University of Utah, Borla attended Snow College and Southern Utah University where he was active in football and baseball.
Borla has been with affiliates of Foundation Coal and its predecessor companies since 1981. He has extensive experience in the industry, starting with Plateau Mining in Carbon County, the Willow Creek mine at Castle Gate, a year at the company mines in Australia as well as the underground and open pit mines in Wyoming.
Borla will assume his new position in May.
