The story of their season, CEU pounded the ball again this weekend and walked away with little to show for it. They lost all four games to Southern Nevada. Friday saw the Eagles go down 1-2 and 2-7. Saturday’s losses were 1-2 and 6-11.
In the first game Friday afternoon, CEU hit the ball hard and often, but almost each time there was a CSN player standing there to make the catch. The Eagles were also stymieing the offense of Nevada, but did give up one too many cheap hits to give them the one run victory.
In the second game, defense again played a key until the 6th inning. With the score tied at a run each, the CEU pitching fell apart and before the sixth was over it was 7-1. CSN’s pitching did not falter and that was the way the game ended.
For the third straight game, CEU and CSN went head to head and defense ruled. Again, hard hits by the Eagles went straight into the gloves of their opponents. It was another one run loss for the Eagles.
In the final game both team’s offense got rolling. It was a back and forth affair for most of the game. The Eagles went ahead 3-2. Then CSN jumped out 5-3. But in the end CSN turned more hits into runs and walked away with the 11-6 win and sweep.
“We need to get a few wins to give ourselves a chance in the conference tournament.” stated Coach Madsen. “We are playing the best ball of the season and now we need to translate that into some wins.”
Colorado is still breathing down the backs of the Eagles for the number five spot in the conference. CEU hits the road for the rest of the season with games against CSI and WNCC the next two weekends.
