Utah’s parks host a variety of events for summer fun

May 22 Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum – Blanding – Cultural Migration Through Time, Space and Perspective: Ancient Chacoans to Modern Tarahumara. Join presenter Richard Fisher at 6 p.m. for a slideshow, dance and music performed by Tarahumara.(435) 678-2238
May 22 Snow Canyon State Park – Ivins – Make Your Own Rock Art: Join park staff from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to explore a small rock art site and learn who created it, discuss its meaning, and create your own “rock art” to take home. Program is free with $5 park entry fee. Registration is required. (435) 628-2255
May 23 Antelope Island State Park – Syracuse – Walk in Utah: Join the park naturalist for a sunset four-mile hike along Lakeside Trail and don’t forget your camera. This event requires pre-registration by May 21. (801) 721-9569
May 23 Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum – Blanding – Ancient Skies: Archaeoastronomy in the Southwest- Archaeoastronomer and environmental educator Bryan Bates talks about the tradition of using the night sky, stars, light and landscape as a seasonal calendar. May 23 Goblin Valley State Park – Green River – Nighttime in the Goblins: Join the park naturalist for an evening walk through the goblins. Find out how the goblins came to be and who lurks around in the night. Meet at 8:30 p.m. at the Observation Point above the Valley of the Goblins. (435) 564-3633
May 24 and 26 Camp Floyd/Stagecoach Inn State Park and Museum – Fairfield – Civil War Days: Camp Floyd State Park, in conjunction with the Utah Civil War Association, hosts a Civil War Encampment. Learn to drill and march, load and fire a Civil War period rifle, watch a battle and medical display, participate in 1861 period games. All events are free of charge; however standard museum entrance fees of $2 per person or $6 per family still apply. (801) 768-8932
May 24 Antelope Island State Park – Syracuse – Walk in Utah: Join the park naturalist on an earth geocache adventure. Participants should remember to bring food, water, sturdy shoes, bug spray, sunscreen and a GPS unit. This event requires pre-registration by May 21. (801) 721-9569
May 24 Antelope Island State Park – Syracuse – Memorial Weekend Activities: Join park staff in celebrating Memorial Day weekend at the historic Fielding Garr Ranch. Learn to make pioneer handkerchief dolls, pick up a needle and quilt, dip candles and make a pioneer lantern, or learn pioneer games such as farm ball. Participants need to bring an empty vegetable or soup can to make their own pioneer lantern.
Also this weekend, celebrate the west in the 3rd annual Cowboy Poetry and music gatherings. For more information call (801) 649-5742.
May 24 Wasatch Mountain State Park – Midway – Junior Ranger Program – Animal Tracking: Children between the ages of 6 and 12 can become a Junior Ranger by joining the naturalist in thisone-hour program designed to get kids excited about nature!
