Dino catcher Tyler Bean scrambles to tag out a Delta player in an earlier game. Coach Moynier praised Bean for his hard work so far this season, saying he has been a work horse for the team.

Needing only to take one out of two games to advance, that is exactly what the Dinos did on Saturday down in Cedar City in the first round of the state play-offs. They met up with the hometown team first and dropped game one 11-1 in six innings. But in game two, they turned the tables and sent Uintah packing in five innings with a 15-4 victory.
Against Cedar, Josh Dennison took the mound and kept it close for most of the game. Training 3-0 for most of the game, Carbon had one of their Carbon innings in the fourth and gave up six runs. They never recovered.
We never did hit,” said Coach Moynier. “We faced a pitcher who threw harder than we were used to.” He did go on to say that Josh Dennison pitched a good game, despite the loss. Brandon Branch hit a solo homerun for the Dinos only score of the game.
Down but not out, they faced Uintah in the consolidation game. Dylan Olsen got the starting nod and ended up with a complete game win. This time the Dinos bats found their target early and often.
Matt Salas sent one over the fence as part as the Carbon hitting fest. Nathan Martinez also had a good day at the plate with a couple of sac flies that came at key times in the game. Moynier was also pleased with the attitude and play of Josh Dennison at second base. “He came ready to play.” he commented.
He also had good words for catcher Tyler Bean. “He has been a work horse all year. He was again in both game one and two this Saturday.”
The team will head to Taylorsville to continue the season this week. They will play Union on Thursday May 15 at 11 a.m. If they succeed they will take on the winner of the Park City and Grantsville match-up at 4:30 p.m.
