The World Series has finally arrived after months of waiting for little league fans all over the county.
Twelve teams from Idaho and Utah have converged upon Price, Carbon County and the beautifully redone fields of the Toy Atwood Baseball Complex in a celebration of little league baseball excellence.
Festivities began yesterday with a dinner at Washington Park, where participating teams and their families met and prepared for a week packed full of games.
This morning’s celebrations start out early with a parade down Main Street in Price at 8 a.m., opening ceremonies following at 8:30 a.m. at the Toy Atwood Baseball Complex fields.
Game play will follow that, starting at 10 a.m., the last game of the day being played at 4 p.m.
The first three days of action in the WBBA World Series this week will be concentrated on pool play.
There will be three pools, each consisting of four teams. The pools are set up in this way:
Pool 1; Idaho Falls Westside, Morgan, South Cache and Alpine.
Pool 2; Helper, Rose Park, Vernal Blue and Washington Terrace.
Pool 3; Carbon Blue, Roosevelt West, Rigby, Idaho and Kearns American.
Carbon County’s two WBBA teams consist of the best of the best in the county. Helper and Carbon Blue will be representing the county in the series.
The entire week will be packed full of game play, starting today at 10 a.m. with South Cache verses Alpine in the first game of the tournement.
Helper will play their first game of the series against Rose Park at 1:30 p.m. today while Carbon Blue will go up against Kearns American in its first game and the last game of the day at 4 p.m.
Play continues Friday and Saturday in the championship and consolation brackets, all teams playing each day.
Friday’s play will consist of double elimination games among the teams, sorting the best teams from the ranks for the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Friday will also play host to the All-star game at 6:30 p.m.
