Harriet Jensen
CLEVELAND – Harriet Edna Jensen, age 92, passed away Oct. 12, 2002 at her home.
She was born Sept. 13, 1910 in Cleveland to Edward and Maude Eden Jensen. Harriet married Frank E. Jensen in Cleveland.
She was a devoted member of the LDS Church.
Mom was a very loving mother and grandmother as well as an extremely charitable person who was a mother to the motherless.
Mom was a hard worker and had a marvelous sense of humor. She was an avid gardener and she loved traveling.
Harriet is survived by children, Marvin (Colleen); Kevin (Lois); Alan (Johannah); Kerwin; Jack (Lorraine); Verlynn (Clifford) Oviatt; all of Cleveland; and Delwin (Joyce), Highland; 31 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Leora (Vern) Leamaster, Huntington; Lindora Draper, Castle Dale; Beth (Walt) Henzie, Ivan; brothers, Ted (Elva) Elmo; Ray (Zona), Cleveland; and Glen (Karen), Elmo. She was preceded in death by husband; parents; brothers, Ike, Fred and Bill Jensen; sister, Annettte Liddell; daughter-in-law, DeAnn Jensen; great-grandson, Kolbe Cowley; and great-granddaughter, Rachel Miller.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Cleveland LDS Chapel. Friends may stop by Fausett Mortuary in Price on Oct. 15 from 1 to 7 p.m. to sign the register book or call one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Cleveland Cemetery.
Sarah Douglas
CEDAR CITY – Sarah Catherine “Kate” Douglas, 95, passed away Oct. 11, 2002 at Kolob Regional Care Center in Cedar City.
She was born April 30, 1907 in Huntington to Georgia Ann Lindsey and Haskel Johnson Majors. She married Clarence Howard and, after his passing, she married William E. Douglas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Kate spent most of her youth growing up on the old family farm southwest of town, where she enjoyed spending time with her mother, working hard and being pampered by her seven older brothers. She was especially close to her brother, Rock. She always enjoyed telling stories of their adventures together. At the age of 14, her family moved to their home in town and Kate lived there until the last few years of her life, when her health required constant care. She loved her home, kept it heat and tidy and always had beautiful flowers growing in the yard.
She was a caring wife and a hard-working, devoted mother who endured many hardships in her early life. She loved making beautiful quilts and was a provider for her family. She also enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and hunting. She was an excellent marksman, a skill she attributed to the time she spent hunting rabbits with her brothers. She often entertained and created fond memories for her children and grandchildren by reciting poems she had memorized over the years. Even at the age of 95, she could recall the verses that the loved to hear. She kept her sharp memory, keen wit and sense of humor until her passing.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she spent time teaching Primary and providing service to others. She had great faith in the healing power of priesthood blessings, which she requested often.
She is survived by five daughters, Lucy (Byron) Cook, Helper; Georgia (Mark) McDonald, Lander, Wyo.; Sally Thompson, Price; Margaret (Gary) Pfaffen-berger, New Harmony; and Pauline (Paul) Roberts, Cedar City. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, seven brothers, one sister, an infant son and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m., at the 1st/5th LDS Ward Chapel in Huntington. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Huntington Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Virgial Peterson
PRICE – Virgial LaVon Peterson, a husband, father and grandfather, passed away Oct. 10, 2002 at Castleview Hospital in Price. He was 94 years old.
Virgial was born Sept. 9, 1908 in Castle Dale to Hans and Edith Jones Peterson. On Oct. 17, 1928, he married Beatrice Peterson from Salem. They made their home in Provo and two daughters were born to them, Patricia and Peggy. On Jan. 31, 1973, his wife, Beatrice, passed away. He later married Helen Kendall from Springville on April 4, 1974. This marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. She passed away April 20, 2002.
Virgial was raised and taught by loving parents. His siblings were an older brother, Harold, and a younger brother, Lloyd. He grew up and attended school in Castle Dale and worked on the family farm there. By 1922, due the ill health of his mother, all his family had moved to Provo.
Virgial was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked hard all his life and always provided well for his family. He worked 45 years as parts man and then as manager for Telluride Motor in Provo, which later became Given Ford. He was also a longtime member of the Lions Club.
Virgial enjoyed the outdoors, especially outings in the mountains, hunting, stream fishing and gardening.
He will be remembered as a quiet and gentle man.
Virgial is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Ted and Patricia Alvey of Nampa, Idaho; James and Peggy Basso, Price; seven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Lloyd Peterson, Ogden; one stepson, John David Wilkerson, Provo; five step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren. A stepdaughter, Kaye Ekker, preceded him in death April 27, 1993.
Graveside services were conducted Monday, Oct. 14, in the Provo City Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary, Springville.
