Local sculptor Karen Templeton works on one of the five figures that will hang from a mobile she is making for the Weber State University Library.
The paper and metal mobile will feature a petroglyph character from five different styles of ancient writings found southeastern Utah and the southwestern United States. The display will include other artists’ work as well and is sponsored by the American Association of University Women.
The upcoming event is the association’s 12th annual exhibit for female Utah artists and the mobile will hang in the library foyer from Feb 2 to Feb. 28.
‘I have always wanted to use paper in one of my creations,’ explains Templeton. ‘And because of the weight restrictions for a mobile such as this, I have my chance. I call it ‘The Whisperers.”
The total display was coordinated to be exhibited concurrently with the dates of the Winter Olympics.
