Helper Council

Five applied to replace Williams, who resigned in April for personal reasons

By John Serfustini

The Helper City Council selected Darren Cloward from a slate of five candidates to become the council’s newest member Thursday. Cloward, lead operator at the Price River Terminal, will serve the remaining term of Thomas Williams, who resigned in April.
Other applicants for the open seat were Gary Harwood, Tim Riley, Travis Rasmussen and Michael Mastin.
In the open session, each candidate was given an opportunity to answer questions about his qualifications and opinions on issues facing the city.
The vote for Cloward was 3-1. Council member David Dornan, who had nominated public works director and former councilman Gary Harwood, was the sole opposing vote.
City Recorder Jona Skerl administered the oath of office and Cloward took his seat on the council immediately after.
