Carbon softball lost 7-2 in their final game of the regular season on Thursday to Juab.
The win for Juab gives the Wasps the 2018 Region 14 title outright and pushes Carbon to third place in the standings.
Carbon opened the game with a first inning score off a Mckenna Pendergrass double.
Juab would follow that score with a solo home run in each of the next two innings including two in the bottom of the third to go up 3-1.
Carbon Head Coach Wade Williams said that it wasn’t just the home runs that put the Dinos behind early, it was Juab’s preparation heading into the game.
“They came a little bit better prepared to play and they made plays and we didn’t,” said Williams.
The Wasps would add four more runs off of starting pitcher Dekota Krashaaur in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 5-2.
Williams made a change in the circle and replaced Krashaaur with freshman Brooke Moosman to finish out the game.
Along with the great hitting by Juab, the Dinos made critical mistakes in the field to give Juab more chances at the plate.
“It surprised us, when we play good defense then we usually win. Then our bats usually come alive but our defense wasn’t there today,” said Williams.
Juab would end up adding two more runs in the top of the fourth off Moosman to put a 7-2 lead on the board ahead of Carbon.
Neither team put up another run on the board after the fourth inning but that didn’t mean they didn’t have chances. Carbon left five runners on base and Juab left 10 runners on base in the game.
Carbon will now head to North Sanpete High School to take on Summit Academy this Saturday in the first round of the 3A State Playoffs.
After the game Moosman said that she hopes that the Dinos can learn from the loss to Juab and be ready for Saturday.
“We just need to come out strong and make sure defense is fielding and our offense is hitting,” said Moosman.
Following the game the Dinos honored the four seniors that have been a part of the program this season. Those seniors include Jordan West, Cali Fossat, McKenna Pendergrass and Kelsey Sorenson.
Moosman said that as a freshman, she has been grateful for each one of the senior’s role on the team and the way they have helped her transition into the program.
“They have meant a lot to me, every single of them is always up and cheering for you even when you are down, they are always there to pick you up,” said Moosman.
The Dinos game against Summit Academy starts at 1:15 on Saturday afternoon. The winner will advance to the next round of the playoffs against the winner of North Sanpete and Delta on Thursday in Spanish Fork.
