Quint E. Pickup

PRICE-Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and all-around cowboy, Quint E. Pickup, 83, rode off into the sunset on September 20, 2017.
He was one of seven children born to Alton and Ada Weight Pickup in Randlett, Utah on August 23, 1934. In June of 1959, he married Bette Oberhansley; later divorced. On March 24, 1967, he married Gwen Mathis in the Salt Lake Temple; she preceded him in death on March 11, 1987. On November 6, 1987, he married Norma Barnett McKinnon in Price.
Quint was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities. He served a mission on the Ute Indian Reservation where he spoke the fluent Ute language. Quint graduated from Union High School and later attended BYU. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Quint was raised in the Uintah Basin and worked at Randlett Merc. and the Ute Cattle Enterprise prior to moving to Price in 1967.
While raising his family in Price, Quint worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a Range Technician where he was highly respected by his peers and all the ranchers in the area prior to his retirement in 1994. Quint was a man of many hats and he was admired for his incredible work ethic. He worked as a rancher, farmer, cowboy, horseshoer and pick-up man just to name a few. He was nominated as the Grand Marshall twice for the Black Diamond Stampede Rodeo, selected as the American Cowboy in 2010, was the high point horseman in the State Riding Club Finals and participated in The Pony Express reenactment. Quint’s greatest honor was to ride alongside some of the best cowboys in the area and cowboy for TN Ranching Company. Quint was considered as family to everyone and he leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations.
Quint is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Norma Pickup, Price; children, Russell (Lisa) Pickup, Connie (Michael) Freestone, Marc (Jamie) Pickup and Shawnda (Steve) Cave; 30 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; step-children, Pauline (Donald) Gibson, Colleen Cook, Wilma (Ed) Howa, Jack McKinnon and Melissa (Corbin) Mogensen; and his beloved sisters, Thora O’Neil and Leah Mae Chandler.
Preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, LaRue, Wayne, Grant and George; wife, Gwen Pickup; and a great-granddaughter, Burklee Williams.
Funeral service, Tuesday, September 26, 2017, 11:00 a.m., Price North Stake Center (449 North 100 East) in Price. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price, Utah where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Quint online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
