FERRON RESERVOIR: (December 05) Access will be by snow machine only.
GIGLIOTTI POND: (December 05) The pond is frozen, but we don’t have any reports on ice thickness. Please use extreme caution on and around the ice.
GOOSEBERRY RESERVOIR: (December 05) There are a lot of snow drifts clogging the road, and the reservoir is frozen.
GRASSY LAKE: (December 05) This lake is accessible by snow machine only.
HUNTINGTON CREEK: (December 05) Except for a mile or so below the dam, there are no fish in the creek because of last fall’s flash floods. You can find fish in the fly fishing-only section.
HUNTINGTON NORTH RESERVOIR: (December 05) Fishing for bass was fair from the docks in recent weeks. Boat anglers reported fair fishing for wipers and trout.
HUNTINGTON RESERVOIR: (December 05) Randall Stilson reported that the reservoir was completely covered in ice on Dec. 2. A week earlier, aquatics biologist Calvin Black said the ice was at least two inches thick. Please be cautious because the ice conditions may still be hazardous.
JOES VALLEY RESERVOIR: (December 05) Fishing is fair. The reservoir is ice free and the boat ramp is still open.
MILLSITE RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (December 05) Brandon Behling reported good fishing over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Last Friday, Brandon counted a dozen fishing parties along the southwest side. Talk around town suggests that fishing is hot. The reservoir was ice-free last weekend.
PETES HOLE: (December 05) Access will be by snow machine only.
POTTERS PONDS: (December 05) Both of the ponds have iced over. Access will be by snow machine only.
RIGHT FORK OF HUNTINGTON CREEK: (December 05) Last fall’s flash floods have washed most trout downstream. You can find some in the upper reaches of the creek, near the dam.
SCOFIELD RESERVOIR: (December 05) Multiple reports indicate that the ice is potentially hazardous. Ice thickness ranges from three to seven inches, but there are still pockets of open water. Ice anglers should exercise extreme caution. Fish with another person, wear ice cleats, and carry self-rescue ice picks and a long rope.
On Nov. 29, JD Abbott and three other anglers caught 50 fish – the biggest was 15.5 inches – in five hours. They fished by the dam using gold and silver Kastmasters, or tube jigs tipped with sucker meat or nightcrawlers. Abbott said that the ice thickness varied. Several other parties fished Thanksgiving weekend and reported good fishing in five to 11 feet of water.
