CHS Cross Country teams gathering momentum with home meet on horizon

By Sun Advocate

The Carbon High Cross Country teams are continuing to post strong results as the season reaches its stretch run.
Last Wednesday the teams traveled to North Sanpete. The boys ran very well and took third. Drew Jones lead the boys with a 9th place finish and a time of 18:26 Trey Richardson was 11th in a time of 18:35.
Paul Bryner, Logan Engar and Kyle Quinton were our top 5 scorers. JW Broadbear and Kaden Kranenkronk were 6 and 7 for the boys varsity. The course is fairly flat around North Sanpete high school, according to CHS Head Coach Telisse Allen.
“It was a great opportunity for us to get a good look at the course,” said Allen.
The possibility of moving into second for the boys team is not out of reach, Allen explained, but we have a lot of work to do. The top 5 scoring boys need to all be running sub 19:00 to do so. Right now we only had 2 and number three is close.
The girls took last in the region. On the day of the meet, the team was without their number one Zarah Rossi due to sickness. Allen said the girls in this region are so close in scores that it’s anybody’s race at region.
“If I put Zarah in the result where I feel she would have ran we still would have taken last however by only 10 points,” said Allen noting that first through fifth place was a 10 point spread.
“I have not seen a region this tight in years,” she said. “It’s going to be close and right now and our fifth girl is too deep however if were able to move her up a few places we will be in the mix.”
The team competed at Altamont on Wednesday afternoon. Carbon will host their only home meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Carbon Country Club. The high school boys run first at 4 p.m. followed by the girls at 4:30 p.m. The junior high race will start the meet at 3:30 p.m.
