ABAJO MOUNTAINS: (July 22) Conservation Officer Dennis Shumway says that fishing in San Juan County has been pretty steady in the past few weeks. The water level at Recapture Reservoir is dropping, which is concentrating the fish and improving the catch rate. Bass have not been hitting as much as they once did, but pike fishing has been hot. Jigs, gold-colored Rapalas, gold Jakes Spin-a-Lures and Kastmasters have been working well. Trout have been hitting well at Foy Reservoir, where anglers have reported success with marshmallows and PowerBait. Fishing has slowed down at Blanding 3 and 4. Foy and Monticello were stocked with 900 and 500 nine-inch rainbows respectively on July 14.

BENCHES POND: (July 22) Fishing is good in the early morning and late evening with using traditional baits. The pond was most recently stocked on July 3 with 500 ten-inch rainbow trout.

BOULGER RESERVOIR: (July 22) Early morning anglers report good fishing with worms and PowerBait. The last stocking occurred just before the July 4 holiday with 500 ten-inch rainbow trout.

CARBON COUNTY COMMUNITY FISHING POND: (July 22) The pond was stocked twice in the past month with 10-inch rainbow trout. Fishing has been good during the early morning hours.

CLEVELAND RESERVOIR: (July 22) Fishing reports have been mixed. Generally, anglers fishing from the bank report slow fishing. The catch has been better for boaters. On July 5, Kathy Jo Martinez had good fishing while trolling with a small silver Kastmaster.

DUCK FORK RESERVOIR: (July 22) Fly anglers have outpaced spincasters in catch rate, although neither are doing very well. Calvin Black recommends damsel fly or scud patterns.

ELECTRIC LAKE: (July 22) On July 14, Tom Ogden fly fished for five hours from a kick boat and caught only two tiger trout. Most shoreline anglers are experiencing slow fishing. Other reports indicate that some boaters, trolling with pop gear and nightcrawlers, have done fairly well.

GIGLIOTTI POND: (July 22) The pond is usually stocked twice a month in the summer. Fishing has been good since ice-off. A combination of a worms and PowerBait has been effective.

GOOSEBERRY RESERVOIR: (July 22) The reservoir was restocked this week. Last week, fishing was mixed with shoreline anglers catching fewer fish than boaters. Kathy Jo Martinez reported good fishing below the dam using small silver Kastmasters.

GRASSY LAKE: (July 14) Multiple, conflicting reports indicate varying fishing conditions. Lures and artificial flies seem to be more effective than baits.

HUNTINGTON CREEK: (July 14) A July 10 flash flood washed out the road and ripped through the stream channel. Several thousand 3-inch brown trout were stocked in May. Most of them are undoubtedly many miles downstream.

HUNTINGTON NORTH RESERVOIR: (July 22) Slow fishing continues for anglers fishing from the bank. Recreational boat traffic dominates the reservoir, except at first light.

JOES VALLEY RESERVOIR: (July 22) On July 13, Stephine Matkin fished from a boat with two other anglers. In six hours, one 33-inch tiger muskie was hooked with a Rapala. Stephine said a number of fish followed the lure to the boat, but wouldn’t strike. In general, fishing has been slow for trout, but is improving for tiger muskies.

Blue Lake: The lake was stocked with 500 nine-inch rainbow trout on July 15.

Dark Canyon: Fishing is slow. The water was stocked with 500 nine-inch rainbow trout on July 15.

Dons Lake: The catch rate has been good, but moss has discouraged some anglers from fishing. Robertson recommends casting out beyond the moss and floating the bait just under the surface. Nightcrawlers and PowerBait have both been effective. Lures are getting caught in the moss. The lake was freshly planted during the week.

Hidden Lake: Fishing ranges from fair to good and is best in the morning and evening. A variety of baits have been effective, including PowerBait in green, orange or rainbow. Nightcrawlers and salmon eggs have been making a comeback. Jakes and Kastmasters are working well. One group of anglers using small Roostertails tipped with salmon eggs reported excellent success. The lake was stocked with 800 nine-inch rainbow trout on July 15. Walt Maldonado fished during the week and said corn-colored PowerBait worked best.

Kens Lake: Fishing has been good in the morning or evening. Bass anglers have been using small jigs near the inlet. Watermelon and chartreuse have been the most popular colors. Small double-tailed jigs have been effective for sunfish. Trout anglers have done well with a wide variety of baits.

Medicine Lake: The lake was stocked with 500 nine-inch rainbow trout on July 14.

Oowah Reservoir: The reservoir was stocked with 900 nine-inch rainbow trout on July 15. Tj and his son fished last week and had good success with small, brightly colored spinners. Baits weren’t effective. Tj interviewed about 40 other anglers over the next few days, and they had similar success.

MILLER FLAT RESERVOIR: (July 14) Fishing has ranged from slow to good, depending on the day and reporting source. Rainbow PowerBait has been the most effective bait for 9- to 12-inch rainbow trout.

MILLSITE RESERVOIR & STATE PARK: (July 22) On July 12, Tom Ogden fly fished from a kick boat for five hours and caught three cutthroats and two rainbows. All fish ranged from 14-16 inches. Tom used a fast sinking line and a size 8 bead head green meanie pattern, size 4 bead head olive leech, and a size 6 bead head crystal bugger. Tom had only five other hits and all occurred before 11 a.m. Tom did not see any other boaters or shoreline anglers catch fish.

PETES HOLE: (July 22) On July 8, the pond was stocked with 600 ten-inch rainbow trout. Two weeks earlier, the pond was planted with 1,400 ten-inchers. Fishing has been good with a variety of baits from boat or shore.

POTTERS PONDS: (July 22) Both ponds were restocked this week. Fishing reports are mixed. Fishing has been the best in the early morning hours and slows down as the day advances.

RIGHT FORK OF HUNTINGTON CREEK: (July 14) A July 10 flash flood closed the road and sent a torrent of water racing downstream. In May, several thousand fingerling brown trout were planted. Most have probably been washed away. You can still fish above South Hughes Canyon in the fly-only zone.

SCOFIELD RESERVOIR: (July 22) On July 16, Rick Berg reported excellent fly fishing for rainbows and cutthroats in upper Fish Creek using a San Juan worm. During the past few weeks, conservation officers and anglers have reported better fishing success from boats. Most boaters have been trolling with pop gear and chubs or worms. Others have reported good luck trolling with spinners. Bank fishing has been fair to slow with most of the fish falling below the slot limit. The most popular baits are worms and PowerBait. Rainbow and lemon twist have been good colors. Chub meat has generally been the most effective bait for cutthroats and tiger trout.

SOUP BOWL: (July 22) On July 8, the pond was stocked with ten-inch rainbow trout. Fishing pressure is low. Most anglers opt to fish at Petes Hole nearby.

WILLOW LAKE: (July 22) The lake was stocked this week. On July 13, Brandon Behling and his wife fished from shore. The lake is extremely mossy, preventing the effective use of lures. Brandon recommends fishing from a boat in deep water using nightcrawlers.

WRIGLEY SPRINGS RESERVOIR: (July 22) The pond was stocked this week. Last weekend, Brandon Behling and his wife fished with spoons. One was red/gold. The other imitated a rainbow trout. They caught one 14-inch and one16-inch rainbow trout.
