Dinos football team looking to get back on winning track

By Sun Advocate

The Carbon High Dinos football team attempt to put a two game losing streak to bed as they prepare to take on Payson on Friday night.
The Dinos started the season with a perfect 4-0 record, but have been frustrated since entering into region play. After defeating Monticello, Amercian Leadership Academy, Ben Lomand and Union, Carbon has struggled in games against Delta and North Sanpete.
After an exciting 17-13 win against Union which was aided in part by a last minute touchdown, the Dinos offense has been stimied since then. Since scoring that game winning touchdown against Union on Sept. 9, the Dino offense has scored just one touchdown since. That score came in the second quarter of Carbon’s 41-7 loss to Delta on Sept. 23.
Coaches have cited that the team had plenty of momentum going into the bye week on Sept. 16, but that break may have worked against the team. Head coach Jeff Blanc has said previously that while the bye week was good for healing injuries and resting up for region play, it may have cut into the momentum the team carried through the first four games of the season.
Carbon (4-2, 0-2 Region 12) now has a chance to add to their win total with a Friday night road game at Payson. The Lions (2-5, 0-2 Region 12) are tied with Carbon in last place in the region.
If Carbon wants to make the 3A state playoffs, they must finish within the top four positions in their region.
With three games remaining, Carbon will need to turn things around quickly and try to recapture the momentum they displayed in the early part of the 2011 season.
