It was a hard loss, even in the middle of a losing streak, that left the coaching staff scratching their heads. Friday night’s 42-0 defeat to Union was a stark contrast to the team that had outplayed ALA for three quarters the previous week.
Coach Leo Paur thought he had a team pumped up and ready to win as they took the field against Roosevelt on Friday night. In a blink, they found themselves down by 14. The team had been down like this before but Coach Paur was startled by the play that followed.
Two fumbles on kick-offs, interceptions and just an entire feeling of confusion dominated the Dino performance on the grid iron. Paur said they didn’t try to do anything different than the previous week, but on this night it was like the team was lost in space. Sophomore coaches Jeff Blanc and Jeff Cisneros tried to assist the varsity team on Friday night and even their presence did not seem to make a difference.
“Why?” Paur asked rhetorically, “I am at a loss and don’t know what else to say. I am doubting my coaching skills and I have never done that before. I just don’t know what else to say.”
The sophomore team showed that there is still hope for things to come. They destroyed the Union JV team 43-6 on Thursday evening, improving their record to 5-2 for the season.
“We had a great team effort of both sides of the ball,” mentioned Coach Blanc.
Jordan Blanc led the Dino offense with 128 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Blanc also returned the second half kickoff back 80 yards for his third touchdown of the game. Dillon Manzanares and Kris Murdock each had a rushing touchdown and ran the ball well. Dakota Cisneros found Nick Haycock in the end zone for another scoring strike and finished the game 9-14 passing.
The team finishes off its season with a Wednesday night home game against Wasatch. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. on the Carbon High field. The Dino Sophomores will play Wasatch in Heber City on Tuesday.
