Anna Marie Nugent VanderHerp Jones

CASTLE DALE – Anna Marie Nugent VanderHerp Jones, 84, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2009 in Ferron. She was the youngest of two children born to Joseph A. and Margaret Walsh Nugent. She was born October 16, 1924 in Hackensack, N.J.
Anna Marie grew up and attended in school in, Rutherford, N.J. She graduated on June 16, 1939 from St. Mary’s Parochial Catholic School, which she attended from K-12. At the age of 17 she married Louis VanderHerp on Sept. 14, 1943 in New Jersey. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Louis passed away on March 17, 1970 in the Deseret Church Beehive Mine. Anna Marie then married Glen Jones in 1971 in Ely, Nev. He passed away July 23, 1977.
While in New Jersey Anna Marie and Louis were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1965. The missionaries that converted them were from Emery County. In 1965 Anna Marie and her family moved to Castle Dale.
Anna Marie never met a stranger and always made herself known to others. She enjoyed writing letters, especially to missionaries, playing in the Senior Citizens Bands, singing, walking and cooking. She could make the best spaghetti and was always asked if she was Italian because of her cooking. She walked everywhere she went and never obtained a drivers license. She loved the church and served in many callings. Anna Marie had many friends and loved living in Castle Dale and loved the community.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend, who always put her family first and always showed respect to others. It’s been said a time or two that she was a little strong willed.
Anna Marie spent the last seven years at the Emery County Nursing Home in Ferron. The family wishes to thank the staff and employees for their kindness and love shown to their mother. Anna Marie appreciated the respect shown by all at the care center towards her; she loved you all.
Anna Marie is survived by her children, daughter; Marie (John) Lindquist, Castle Dale, son; Louis (Marie) VanderHerp, Ferron; three grandchildren, Colten and Carson VanderHerp and Johnny Lindquist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and one brother, Joseph Nugent.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Castle Dale 8th North Building, 165 West 800 North, Castle Dale. A viewing will be Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, 720 N. Center, Castle Dale, and on Friday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Castle Dale City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
