Law enforcement agencies chase, arrest suspects

A high speed chase Tuesday led to the arrest of suspects wanted for questioning in connection with a string of alleged burglaries throughout California and possibly Utah.
According to Helper City Police Department spokesperson Trent Anderson, the suspects’ vehicle was spotted by Officer Chris Pugliese on an attempt to locate report.
When Pugliese tried to pull over the suspects, they reportedly stopped, waited for the officer to get out of the patrol car and sped away in an attempt to evade authorities.
“Pugliese immediately called in for back up and began the pursuit which led north on U.S. Highway 6 toward Salt Lake City. After the call was made for assistance, the highway patrol and the Carbon County sheriff’s department immediately responded. Through a joint effort, the agencies were able to stop the speeding car by using a spike strip near Billy’s Mountain,” said Anderson. “The operation went smoothly and fortunately there were no injuries to law enforcement personnel or civilians.”
When the officers finally stopped the vehicle, Anderson said, law enforcent arrested two male suspects who were in possession of stolen property.
“After searching the vehicle, officers found evidence that they had a motel room in Price,” continued Anderson. “After obtaining a search warrant for the motel, we ended up finding a female suspect, alleged controlled substances and more stolen property.”
All three suspects were booked into the Carbon County Jail.
Brian Wright, 24 of Escondido, Calif., is facing charges of possession of stolen property and theft.
Jacob Hutsell, 25 of Valley Center, Calif., is facing charges of fleeing from an officer, possession of stolen property, reckless driving and theft.
The female suspect, Robin Best, 20, also from Escondido, Calif., is facing multiple charges of possession of a controlled substance, possesion of drug paraphenalia and accessory to forgery.
“We have reason to believe that the suspects in custody were in the process of casing out houses in the Helper area when spotted by Officer Pugliese,” said Anderson.
According to local law enforcement officials, it is always a good idea to make sure that people’s homes and cars are secure at all times in order to prevent property theft.
“Even though we live in a small area where we think that we know everyone, there is no reason to take any chances. Towns like ours are being targeted by criminals. The trusting nature of a small community makes an easy target for a professional thief,” said the Helper police representative.
“If you see anything out of the ordinary happening in your area, do not hesitate to call it in. You can never be too careful,” stressed Anderson.
