Robert Hackney
PRICE – Our loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Robert Ferrell Hackney, age 67, passed away suddenly May 29, 2007 in Price.
He was born Dec. 18, 1939 in Clarksville, Ark., to Morgan Ferrell and Mina Ellen Rowe Hackney. Married Margene Tonel Sherman March 15, 1974 in Ely, Nev.
Bob was a longtime resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Price American Legion Post 3.
In 1995, “Hack” retired from Energy West Mining Company as a warehouse supervisor.
“Utah Bob,” as known to many, was actively involved in the community and highly respected throughout the Castle Valley.
He shared a deep love for the area and he especially loved preserving its history for future generations. He was a charter member of the Castle Valley Archaeology Society, the Utah Statewide Archaeology Society, charter member of the Castle Valley Raptor Chapter, Nine Mile Canyon Coalition, and a member of the Utah Historical Society. His efforts will always be appreciated.
Bob enjoyed fly fishing, watching the Utah Jazz and, most of all, just spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by loving wife of 33 years, Margene Hackney, Price; three sons and one daughter, Marty Sherman, Salt Lake City; Lynn Sherman, Price; Duane (Tammy) Sherman, Helper; Christy Noyes and Gary Barker, Wellington; sister-in-law, Sharon Hackney, Price; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four nephews. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Donald Morgan Hackney; and son-in-law, Merrill Noyes.
Funeral service, Friday, June 1, 10 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the CEU Prehistoric Museum, 155 East Main Street, Price, UT 84501.
Willie ‘Dub’ Yates
FERRON – Our devoted father and grandfather, Willie Loyde “Dub” Yates, age 82, passed away May 25, 2007 at the Emery County Nursing Home in Ferron.
Born Feb. 27, 1925 in Eufaula, Okla., to Horace Loyde and Harriet Locke Yates. Married Carol Henrie Feb. 5, 1946 in Price; later divorced. Even though they were separated, they were never apart. Dub and Carol continued a lifelong relationship and they were together at the care center.
Dub was a longtime resident of California, where he worked as a golf course superintendent for the Monterey Peninsula Golf Courses. He was extremely hardworking and he enjoyed working with his hands. He was a very generous and talented handyman who was always there to assist anyone in need.
He loved to hunt, fish, and he was an accomplished singer.
Survived by two daughters and two sons, Kathy (Steve) Walker, Delta; Myrlena (Craig) Funk, Ferron; Loyde D. Yates, Whittier, Calif.; Rocky (Helen) Yates, East Carbon; two sisters and two brothers, Irene Miller, Vancouver, Wash.; Bernice Osborn, Tommy Davis, Bobby Davis, all of Fresno, Calif.; and 13 loving grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.Preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Yates; brother, Billy Davis; and a grandson, Keith Wiley Walker.

Margaret Heaps
HUNTINGTON – Margaret E. Grubbs Heaps, age 75 of Huntington, passed away on May 26, 2007.
She was born to Hayward Ira and Minnie Christensen Grubbs on April 15, 1932 in Los Angeles, Calif. She grew up in southern California and graduated from El Monte High School in 1950. She married John Krstyen and was later divorced. She moved to Aurora, and married Darland Heaps. They subsequently moved to a farm in Huntington.
She was a devoted wife and mother, working tirelessly on the farm and in the home.
Margaret had a variety of jobs. She could do anything she put her mind to. She worked for Broadway Department Store as a receipt auditor, Norton Air Force Base as a sheet metal worker on airplanes, at Bourns manufacturing electronic components for missiles and at Thermamax assembling gas regulators.
She is survived by husband, Darland; five sons, Gregory (Marilyn) Krstyen, Jeffrey (Marilou) Krstyen, John Krstyen, Marty (Crystal) Heaps and Shon (Deni) Heaps; six stepchildren, William (Alesia) Heaps, Darlene (Warren) Cole, Phillip (Sherri) Heaps, LaRene (Kevin) Jensen, Leonard Heaps and Wendy (Lee) Jensen; siblings, Florence Cruse, Joseph (Dorothy) Grubbs and William (Connie) Grubbs; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, and siblings Dorothy, Raymond, Eleanor, and James.
She will be remembered as a person of integrity and sacrifice, a hard working unselfish person who gave her life to the service of others. She was always modest in her wants and needs. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nursing staff at Castleview Hospital.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 1, at 11:30 a.m. at Fausett Mortuary 710 North Center in Castle Dale. Viewing will be Thursday, May 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery.
June Axelgard
PRICE – Our loving mother and grandmother, June Okelberry Axelgard, passed away peacefully surrounded by her five children on May 21, 2007 in Payson.
June was born in Goshen to Roy and Valina (Rowe) Okelberry on June 25, 1918. She was the eldest of five children. She was raised in Goshen and attended in Payson High and Utah State University. June married Walter T. Axelgard in Goshen on June 23, 1947. She and Walter made their home in Price.
June grew up in the family sheep business, where she spent a lot of her time in the outdoors. She developed a keen understanding and love for all of God’s creatures, especially horses. This, she passed on to her children and we are grateful for that.
She was a devoted mother who loved to cook and spend time working in her yard. She and Walt loved to travel and camp later in life with their dear friends.
June had very diverse interests and was at ease whether at the governor’s ball or herding sheep.
June is survived by five children, Mick (DeAnna) Axelgard of Price; Walter (LeAnna) Axelgard Jr. of Price; Kevin (Bonnie) Axelgard of Price; Scott Axelgard of Price; and Julie (Ron) Jarvis of Santaquin; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Jean Brown; and brothers, Lee and Ray Okelberry. Preceded in death by husband of 57 years; parents; sister, Alta Fitzgerald; granddaughter, Jessica Axelgard; and great-granddaughter, Makala Felice.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Latter Day Assisted Living, Santaquin. To Bonnie Ballard for her loving care of our mother during her last days. We would like to express our gratitude to our extended family for their extraordinary care, help and support fulfilling our mother’s needs.
Funeral services were Friday, May 25, at the Price 4th LDS Ward Chapel. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery in Price under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Benjamin E. Bray
Price – Benjamin Edison Bray, age 90, passed away May 22, 2007 in the Emery County Nursing Home.
He was born March 17, 1917 in Bliss, Idaho, to Solo Asa and Laura Crist Bray.
Married Pauline M. Bray in 1941 in Englewood, Colo. They were later divorced.
Survived by his children, Ace Bray, Houston, Texas; Charles Bray, Gateway, Colo.; James Bray, Littleton, Colo.; Debra Cassidy, Nocadochaus, Texas; sister, Mattie Gibbons, Middleton, Ore.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Upon Ben’s request no services will be conducted.
