The Carbon High school track team hosted the Farm Bureau Invitational on March 17 and started the season off with great results. The event included Park City, Juan Diego, Tooele, Uintah, Monticello, Springville, Union, Duchesne and Judge Memorial.
Standing out in the meet was Chantel Jensen who placed second in both the girls high jump and long jump events. Her second place jump of 5’2″ qualified her for the state competition.
“I was pleased with both our girls and boys teams,” said Carbon High coach Jimmy Jewkes. “It was a great way to start the year off,” continued the Carbon coach.
Also showing well for Carbon was Samantha Smith who placed third in the 1600 meter run and Patricia Smith who placed fourth in the 1600 meter and second in the 800 meter.
Travis Hepworth ran hard to finish fifth in the 300 meter hurdles and teammate Paul Goodrich placed fourth in the 3200 meter run and third in the 800 meter run.
James McKendrick showed his muscle placing fourth in the javelin competition and Felicia Olmos flew high to finish fifth in the long jump.
Karlee Martino also placed in the long jump coming in sixth and Brock Morley rounded out the team finishing sixth in the 300 meter hurdles.
“We have a young team and this meet really helped get us off to the right start,” concluded Jewkes.
