The National Barrel Horse Association conducted their annual awards banquet on Dec. 18 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds event center. Local District Utah #07 gave out more than $7,500 in year end awards for the 2006 barrel racing season.
The 30 member NBHA runs a 4-D format, making it appeal to anyone wanting to barrel race from the beginner to the seasoned competitor. And they have scheduled jackpot barrel races from March through September at the Carbon County fairgrounds arena as well as the New Castle Dale indoor arena. Memberships are offered to all youth and adult riders of all levels of experience. “We love to see beginners become winners,” said Kathy Price.
During the summer months the local NBHA conducted a Target barrel race at the fairgrounds. The rider that came closest to the original time won a Billy Cook Barrel racing saddle. The winner was Jessica Hardy as she made two nearly identical runs.
The NBHA is looking forward to another fun season of barrel racing in 2007.
