Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI. All items are subject to editing.
EQIP fund applications – The NRCS field office in Price will accept new applications for riparian, forestry and wildlife watershed improvement pool plans until Jan. 8. Final rankings will be completed by Jan. 15. The office is located at 540 West Price River Drive. For information, contact district conservationist Wayne Greenhalgh at 637-0041, extension 19.
Food handlers classes – are scheduled Jan. 24, Feb. 27 and March 27 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah Health District in Price, 28 South 100 East. Two-hour classes are also planned Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department in Castle Dale, 24 West Main Street. Test fees are required. For information, contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. Contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments. Doghouses are needed and members will collect donations at local residences.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – is accepting applications. Volunteers along with board and committee members are needed. Donations may be sent to PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. The office is located at 150 S. 700 E. Price, UT. For information, contact the organization at 637-9701.
East Carbon Neighborhood Watch – meetings are the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center.
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price. Price Main Street program – The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For more information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.
Carbon County RSVP – Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need volunteers may contact the Price office at 637-9118 or the East Carbon office.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – needs adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and clean facilities. Donations are accepted. Dedicated hunter hours may be worked through the program. Call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.
Helper community development committee – meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium.
CASA volunteers needed – Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering may contact the CASA coordinator at (435) 381-5595.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. The free lending library open to the community. Library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CEU Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The library is closed on weekends during school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Rape crisis hot line – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Golden Rule Mission – Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to Golden Rule Mission in Helper.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; closed Sunday and holidays. Story time is Monday at 11 a.m. for toddlers, Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. The library is giving away old magazines and accepting old paperback books. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes, divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. For information, call the center at 637-0281. The center is also collecting donations for displaced families. The center will only accept furniture items if they have families in need.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 1:30 to 7 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Extra hours for study groups may be arranged. For information, contact the library during business hours at 472-5601.
CEU museum – A program for children ages 5 to 12 is slated the second Saturday of the month. Activities will be presented in the classroom from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Space is limited to 20 participants per Saturday. People interested in attending may contact Shawna Carroll at 613-5760. Ballet Repertory Ensemble – Performances scheduled at 7:30 p.m. at CEU Geary Theater include Feb. 23 and 24, salute to Broadway; contemporary concert, April 25 and 27; and classical concert, April 26 and 28. All performances start at 7:30 p.m.

VFW field officer – will be at Price workforce services Dec. 21 and Jan. 25 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to assist veterans in applying for VA benefits. Veterans need not be VFW members to qualify for the free assistance.

Recovery classes – are scheduled Monday to Friday at the Golden Rule Mission in Helper from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Classes include relapse prevention, Big Book, 12 steps, traditions, spirituality and life skills. AA is 6 p.m. daily.
Price Recovery group – meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the CEU computer building.
Recovery Inc. – The Price self-help group for people with nervous symptoms and fears meets Thursday at 7 p.m. at Banasky Insurance, located at 6 West Main Street in Price.

Look Good, Feel Better – The American Cancer Society program helps women address the appearance related side effects of treatment. The group meets the first Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Castleview Hospital.

Teen parenting class – is scheduled Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse. Thirty-six hours will equal one elective credit.
