Wildfire in Huntington Canyon visible throughout Carbon, Emery County area

By Sun Advocate

Smoke and flames were visible at locations throughout the Carbon-Emery region during the holiday weekend from a lightning caused wildfire in Huntington Canyon.
The East Mountain fire is located on the southeast side of Huntington Canyon, indicated the Ferron ranger district of the United States Forest Service.
The fire is burning in a remote, steep terrain area of Douglas fir, according to the ranger district.
Fire activity and the resulting smoke are generally greatest during the late afternoons, when temperatures are at the highest level and humidity is lowest.
At the present time, the fire remains in monitor status, explained the ranger district.
Fire managers will review the wildfire’s progress and weather forecasts to determine if suppression action is necessary to protect life and property. Due to the steep location, unsafe conditions and to ensure firefighter safety, no suppression action is being taken at this time.
Fire management officer Brandon Hoffman encouraged forest visitors to exercise caution.
“Remind everyone to be especially careful and fire conscious while recreating this summer. Make sure your campfire is dead out,” urged Hoffman.
