Deadline for FYI – is Tuesday at 5 p.m. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or emailed to fyi@sunad.com. Items submitted after the deadline will run in the next week’s FYI. All items are subject to editing.
Helper burn period – will continue until May 3. Burn permits are required and may be picked up at no cost at the Helper fire and police departments.
Persons with disabilities workshop – Utah Parent Center will present all-day workshops for parents of children with disabilities, individuals with disabilities and service providers May 3 and May 4 at the Carbon School District Office conference room. Wednesday’s workshop will be IEP process and tools for constructive communication. Thursday’s workshop will be negotiation and advocacy skills training; problem solving and conflict resolution. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and workshops starting at 9 a.m. Pre-register with the Utah Parents Center toll-free at 1- 800 468-1160. Accommodations will be provided upon five days prior notice.
Free tutoring – Carbon High School FBLA members are offering free tutoring services to students in a variety of subjects. For information, contact Carbon High School at 637-2463.
Helper spring cleanup – will be in effect the month of April. City crews will pic up furniture, appliances, metal, cement and branches, which must be cut in four-foot lengths. All debris must be placed in separate piles. No cars or car parts will be picked up. There will be no backtracking a and stacks must be placed next to the curb, off the road and sidewalks.

Carbon County Humane Society – offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month in the basement at 5 South Carbon Avenue in Price. Contact the group at 637-0588 for appointments.
Family Support and Children’s Justice Center – is updating its community resource book. Residents may contact the center at 637-0281.
Pinnacle Canyon Academy Parent/Faculty Association – meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the school.
Immunization clinic hours – Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Castle Country Habitat for Humanity – will work every Saturday possible to frame, roof and winterize a wheelchair accessible house in Castle Dale. Volunteers are needed; especially a construction supervisor. Board members are also needed. Donations may be sent to HHCC, PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. Residents may volunteer for workdays, donate aluminum cans, help sponsor a fundraiser or get applications by calling Katherine Foster at 650-0074.
Head Start – Head Start is a free preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. Early Head Start is a free program for prenatal women and infants 0-3. The program offers prenatal health and education services, child development education, home visits, group activities, family and community partnerships. For qualification information, residents may contact Head Start in Wellington, 637-4960 or in Price, at 613-8494. Applications are being accepted for both programs.
East Carbon Neighborhood Watch – Sunnyside, Columbia and East Carbon residents are urged to attend Neighborhood Watch meetings the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center .
Free legal clinics – Utah Legal Services has scheduled free legal clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district court complex, 149 E. 100 South, Price Residents should bring all documents pertaining to questions or cases. Price Main Street program – The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For more information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.
Women’s cancer screening – Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms.For information, call the health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.

Cans for CARE-A-VAN – Aluminum can drive to assist the elderly with transportation to medical appointments. Drop off at Howa’s on Carbonville Road or call the program at 637-9488 for pick up. Cans must be bagged.
Utah Youth Village – Carbon and Emery residents interested in becoming proctor parents may contact Lisa Peirce at 1-888-226-6557.
Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – is looking for adult volunteers to feed orphaned animals and birds and clean facilities. Donations are accepted. Dedicated hunter hours may be worked through the program. Call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.
Pro-Care – The after school program is seeking high school students and adult volunteers to help with daily activities at local elementary schools and substitute for regular VISTA workers. Doghouses needed – Carbon County Humane Society members will collect donated doghouses at local residences.

Children’s story, craft hour – CEU Museum will host children’s story and craft hour Fridays at 2 p.m. in the discovery room. Call the museum at 637-5060 for information.

CASA volunteers needed – Court appointed special advocate volunteers are men and women who want to help abused and neglected children. Residents interested in volunteering may contact the CASA coordinator, at (435) 381-5595.
Carbon Family Resource Center – Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. CFRC is a free lending library open to the community. Library includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents. CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. Call the center for hours at 650-3830. Volunteers are needed.
CEU Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. The library is closed on weekends during school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.
Foster grandparents – Volunteers needed. Individuals who are at least 60 years old, have a limited income and time to share with children may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week. For information, call the program at 613-0987.

Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Books for shut-ins – Helper City Library will deliver books to shut-ins. Call the library at 472-5601.
Price Library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Closed Sunday and holidays. Story time hours are Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Toddler time is Monday at 11 a.m. at the library and Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at Castle Valley Center. Teen night is April 20 at 6:30 p.m.
The Scholastic book fair is slated May 8 to May 12.
The library will accept donated books until May 29 for its annual sale. The sale is scheduled May 30 to June 9, excluding weekends. Volunteers are needed. Call the library at 636-3188.
Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. 20th Reunion Car Show – will be presented June 17 at Helper City Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendors are being accepted.
Bookcliff Muzzleloaders spring shoot – is slated May 5, May 6 and May 7 on Cedar Mountain approximately 17.5 miles from the Country Corner Store in Cleveland. Free dry, no fire primitive camping will be available. Entry fees are required. Registrations may be completed Friday night or Saturday from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
The schedule includes:
Friday, 6 p.m., four-man team shoot.
Saturday, 9 a.m., aggregate rifle; paper, silhouettes and novelty; Levi Garrett target shoot; mountainman run and shoot, hawk and knife throws; and flintlock shoot.
Sunday, 8 a.m., blanket shoot; and 10 a.m., shotgun.
