Official Red Cross Katrina Disaster Donation Center – at Sears, 74 So. Carbon Ave. in Price. Donations can be made by check or cash – sorry, no credit card charges! Sears will match up to $500,000 in customer donations.
Hurricane Katrina Benefit – Golf tournament and concernt at the Carbon Country Club, October 1. 4-person scramble, 1:00 shotgun start. Cost: $100 per team plus green fees and cart. 30 teams max., burgers served after play on the snack bar patio. Open air concert featuring Keele ‘n Time will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the practice range adjacent to hole #9. Cost for the concert will be $10 per person at the gate (children ages 5-12 $5, under 5 free). All tournament players will be admitted free. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the great music. All proceeds will go towards victims of Hurricane Katrina.
DUP Yard Sale – Daughters of Utah Pioneers will hold a yard sale October 14 & 15 at 68 So. 100 East in Price from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Women’s Cancer Screening – Testing, Easy as One, Two, Free. If you’re 50 or older, you most likely qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer screening exam and a free mammogram. To find out call 637-3671. Women between 40 and 49 years old may qualify for a low cost exam.
Carbon County RSVP – Responding to Community Needs Through Volunteer Service. Volunteers are the heart of our organization and our community. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium or in the Library in the Auditorium.
Food Handlers Class – for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli’s. Free Legal Clinic – is held every second and fourth Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Price Courthouse, 149 E. 100 South in Price. Bring your questions and all the documents that you have pertaining to your question or case. Items Needed – Family Support and Children’s Justice Center is in continuous need of the following items: canned goods, noodles, top ramen, tuna fish, soups, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, paper plates, plastic cups, dish soap, diapers and wipes. New and used clothing is always accepted (new underwear only please). No donation too big or too small, we accept them all. Please remember that when you donate items to the center, they are going right back to the community. We serve children in the Carbon and Emery counties. There is no charge to families for items or the service we provide. We operate on grants and private donations. We need people in the community to help us help the children. Applications for Sprinkler Irrigation Accepted – The USDA/NRCS is accepting applications for any agricultural land owner interested in sprinkler irrigation. This is an incentive based program to aid in the control of salinity in the river. To receive an application or for questions related to the program contact NRCS at 540 W. Humane Society Rummage Sale – Donations are being collected for the Carbon County Humane Society’s Rummage Sale. If you wish to donate items please contact 637-2908 or 637-2208. All donations are tax exempt.
Cans for CARE-A-VAN – Aluminum can drive to assist the elderly with transportation to medical appointments. Drop off at Howa’s on Carbonville Road or call 637-9488 for pick up. Cans must be bagged.

Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation – a non-profit group that helps injured and orphaned wildlife. Help is needed year-round for various projects. Cash donations are always needed and greatly appreciated. Dedicated Hunter hours can be performed or purchased through us. Carbon County Humane Society – seeks building for their once a month clinic. The Spay and Neuter clinic has been helping animals and their guardians for over 10 years. If you or someone you know has a vacant building that would benefit our cause please call 637-2908. Thank you for your support.
Volunteers Needed – ProCare (After School Program) is seeking volunteers to help out with daily activities and also substitute for regular VISTA workers when necessary. High school students and all adults welcome. Those over 18 must pass background check prior to working with ProCare. Alzheimer’s – Memory Loss – The Price area has been developing a C.A.R.E. Program with the Alzheimer’s Association. The program needs caregivers who could use a break from the constant chores of taking care of a family member with memory loss. The program also needs volunteers to help provide companion services while the caregiver gets a much needed break for 1-3 hours. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage. The C.A.R.E. program for the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah is in the Price R.S.V.P. office which is located in the Carbon County Senior Citizens building, 30 East 200 South in Price. Volunteers Needed – Rocky Mountain Hospice – Faith in Action is looking for trusting, compassionate people to provide respite time for families of terminally ill patients. Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Family Center Lending Library – to help parents including topics such as infant through adult literacy, discipline, children & teens mental health, bullying and much more. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Parenting for Teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. American Legion Service Officer Visit – On Sept. 29, a Service Officer from the American Legion Office in Salt Lake City will be visiting Price to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States to qualify for assistance. The officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Services Center from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on both days. Please bring the following documents so that we may better serve you: DD form 214, marriage/divorce papers, birth/adoption/death certificates, children’s social security numbers.
