Tony McFarland of East Carbon threw a no-hitter for the Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader over Concordia on Saturday, April 2.
McFarland is currently a sophomore at Briar Cliff University, which is number one in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
McFarland did something that no Briar Cliff University pitcher has done since April 23, 1996. Throwing against Concordia, McFarland threw a complete game no-hitter. He faced 22 batters and had six recorded strikeouts during the game. The Chargers won 10-0.
The complete game no-hitter was the first since 1996 and only the fifth since the programs beginning in 1979.
In high school, McFarland was a 10-time letter winner for the Vikings. He was named All-State first team 1A all four years, All-Region 18 and was MVP in his senior year at East Carbon High. McFarland won the Athletic Director’s award sophomore and senior years. He was also named Mr. Viking and was the recipient of Outstanding Male Academic Award in his senior year.
