Carbon coach Lane Herrick waves speed-up runner Skylar Namity home during Tuesday’s home game against North Sanpete. Carbon won 9-0 behind 19 strikeouts by hurler Troy Grundy.

Carbon baseball closed out the regular home season on a statistical high note Tuesday with a 9-0 win over North Sanpete.
Carbon senior Troy Grundy, who has been pitching on a limited basis for a few weeks due to shoulder soreness, was back in full force for the Dinos, striking out 19 batters in the no-hitter.
“It’s good to see Troy back out there healthy,” coach Lane Herrick said.
Only four of the batters Grundy faced made any signs of struggle. Two batters popped out to Dino fielders, while Grundy walked one and hit one.
However, for Grundy, 19 just wasn’t enough.
“It makes me mad because the state record is 20,” Grundy commented. “The same thing happened last year.”
Grundy had a 19-strikeout game last season and was hoping to tie or beat the record this year.
Despite the disappointment, though, he has high hopes for upcoming state tournament.
Aside from a strong bull pen, which Grundy attributes to the fact that the pitching staff gets along well and is willing to work hard, Carbon’s offense has gotten stronger each game.
“If we just keep playing baseball like we know how, we should be fine,” Grundy concluded.
The Dinos will play Delta today to end the regular season.
The first round of the state tournament begins May 8 at Carbon’s home field.
