Aluminum Can Drive – During the month of April, Habitat for Humanity of Castle County (Emery and Carbon counties) will be conducting a recycling drive collecting aluminum cans. Take your cans to Price Metal Salvage, 510 East 1250 South in Price, and tell them that they are for Habitat for Humanity. They will take care of the rest! 2004 Letter Carriers Food Drive – This statewide event is taking place on Saturday, May 8. Fill a bag with high-protein, non-perishable food and leave by your mail box on this day. The food donated will be delivered to the Food Bank. Donations may also be dropped off at any US Post Office on May 8th.
Castle Valley Youth Leadership Conference – “We are Survivors”, will be held May 21 & 22. Youth ages 14 and up are invited to attend the 2004 Castle Valley Youth Leadership Conference which will include workshops, games, food, entertainment and prizes. Pre-register and receive a free t-shirt. Applications may be picked up from Youth City Council Advisors, City Hall, Canyon View Jr. High, San Rafael Jr. High, or Emery High School. Memorial Cross/Flags – Any person losing a loved one in the past year that was in a branch of the military and is buried in the Helper Cemetery and would like a cross and flag placed in the military section of the Cemetery, please send a letter stating the Name (printed) and the Branch of service for the individual. Carbon High FCCLA Yard Sale – the FCCLA is in need of your donations of unwanted items to sell at their Yard Sale on May 8. Donations will be accepted until May 3. Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Food Handler’s Classes – There will be Food Handler’s Classes taught in Price May 19 and June 23 at 9 a.m, 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District health Department. Classes will be taught in Castle Dale May 20 and June 17 at 4 p.m and 7 p.m. at the Health Department located at 25 W. Main St. The Classes will be two hours in length and the cost is $10.00 to take the test. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. VFW Field Service Officer Visit – On May 13 a Field Service Officer from the VFW Department Service Office in Salt Lake CIty will be visiting Price to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the Veterans fo Foreign Wars of the United States to qualify for assistance.
