Editor:
Greetings from Fort Lewis, Wash. The troops are doing great, morale is high and we are excited to answer the “call to arms” in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Company A Detachment 1 of the 1457th Engineer (Combat) Battalion felt a true sense of patriotism when we left Price. It was wonderful to see such a tremendous amount of support from the community.
We had a fine dinner before we left and the “guard”ian bears the kids were given were wonderful. I know that my three children treasure those bears.
Typically a person may view a member of the National Guard as only a weekend warrior and not realize that the weekend is spent preparing for a mission such as we are now serving. I am proud to be a member of the Utah National Guard and I am proud of the opportunity to serve my country.
I would ask that the community that gave us such a great send off not forget our families that we left behind. They are making the supreme sacrifice of letting us go. They will need your continued support throughout the coming weeks.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
