Danielle Julian drives past a Lehi defender in a Region 8 game hosted at Carbon High last week. After the Dinos fell to the Lehi team, the Carbon squad rebounded this past Tuesday night as they easily defeated Delta, 55-39. |
After losing to the Lehi Pioneers last week, the Carbon Dinos stepped out on to their homecourt to reclaim their winning streak.
Last Tuesday night, the Dinos hosted the Delta Rabbits. In this match up, the Carbon team had quite an easy time regaining momentum in the Region 8 standings.
The Dinos opened up the game by outscoring the Rabbits, 16-4 in the first quarter. The momentum only continued as the Dinos entered the locker room at the half leading the Delta team, 28-13.
The second half found the Rabbits launching a comeback rally by scoring 26 points.
This was not enough however as the Dinos easily defeated the Rabbits, 55-39 in the Region 8 competition.
Morgan Warburton lead the Dinos in scoring with 20 points. She was followed by Danielle Julian who scored 16 points.
The victory boosted the Dinos season record to 3-1. After the Region 8 loss last week, the Dinos dropped out of the Class 3A standings.
With this week’s win, the Dinos hope to find themselves included in the standings this week when they are announced on Thursday.
After becoming a consistant 3A team, it was unusual for the Dinos to be left off of the rankings last week.
Although standings don’t mean much, the Dinos realize that every game is important in order to increase their chances of competing in the state finals next month.
With the abscence of leading scorer Chelsey Warburton who is out for the season due to a knee injury, the Dinos realize that they need to step up their play and compete strong.
This is just what the team has done and the pressure is finally lifting off the shoulders of the talented Dino team.
The Dinos will continue to move forward and gain more momentum as the state finals nears.
The team will visit the Emery Spartans this Thursday night as the two teams meet in a rematch.
The first time the two teams met, the Dinos squeaked past the Spartans, 52-49 on Carbon’s home court.
This time, the Spartans will be out for revenge as they host the Dinos.
This fact however, does not intimidate the strong Dino team.
