While deer-vehicle collisions on highways in the area represent a major problem, Carbon County motorists are reminded that livestock can become a potential threat. On Tuesday, several horses got out and were running along U.S. Highway 6 between Helper and Blue Cut. One semi-trailer barely missed a horse on the shoulder of the road when the animal stepped into the lane. Residents should be cautious of livestock that may have escaped enclosures or wandered off free range. Often, sheep and cattle venture onto back roads and a rise or a hill obscures a driver’s vision, creating disastrous effects.
