Robert Kinder and Kent Allred are serving as co-chairmen of the 2002 Helper Fireman’s Ball. The fundraising event is slated Feb. 8 at the Helper Civic Auditorium. The all-volunteer department presents the dance as a benefit to raise funds for fire and emergency equipment. The department had received a grant to buy a new ‘brush’ truck, a four-wheel drive fire fighting vehicle that will be brought into town in the spring. Proceeds from the dance will primarily be used to equip the vehicle with the necessary materials and equipment for emergency response. Last year, the department responded to more than 300 calls. Sixteen Helper residents are volunteers for the department and receive hundreds of hours of training per year in emergency response and fire fighting procedures. The department will sell prize drawing and dance tickets in Kenilworth and Spring Glen on Jan. 18 and in Helper on Jan. 25. Residents may also purchase tickets from the fire fighters, at R&A Market or at the fire station.
