Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Helper animal licenses – 2003 animal licenses may be purchased Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 97 S. Main, Helper. Proof of valid rabies vaccinations and fees required.
Flu vaccinations – Clinic hours at the health district in Price are Monday through Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Former Carbon Hospital employees party – is planned Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Skylight Restaurant at Price Holiday Inn. For reservations, call Arlene Bonello at 637-1486.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions are scheduled at the public health department in Price on Nov. 14 and Dec. 12 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Classes will be taught at the health district in Castle Dale on Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Test fees required. Pesticide applicator workshop – The recertification workshop for commercial, non-commercial and private applicators is scheduled Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. at John Wesley Powell Museum in Green River. For information, contact the Carbon County office at 636-3233.
HEAT program – The federally funded energy assistance program opens Nov. 1. Applicants must have identification, Social Security cards for all household members 18 years of age or older, copies of utility bills and proof of preceding month’s income for all employed people in the home. Active Re-Entry drivers – The center needs volunteer drivers to transport people with disabilities to appointments, school and work on an as needed basis. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage. Contact Active Re-Entry at 637-4950.
Cookbook recipes – The chamber is accepting recipes for inclusion in the organization’s cookbook. Submit recipes to Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, 90 N. 100 East #3, Price UT 84501.
Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Participants learn about available resources, assistance to help youth return/remain in school, parenting/life skills, cooking and recreation opportunities. CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – works to empower local families. The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group’s rummage sale. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Carbon County Housing Authority – The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The children’s library is open to housing residents Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

CEU library -Hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.; Sunday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Hours vary on holidays and during breaks. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Helper mining museum – From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.

Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – Located at the county courthouse in Price, the office is open the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., excluding a half-hour lunch. For information, residents may call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.

Sally Mauro Reflections program – Students are urged to create and submit works of art in the elementary school’s Reflections program. The theme is “Signs of Courage.” Students may paint, sketch, punch or sew artwork projects. Entries may also include photos, videos and dances as well as original songs, stories or poems. Deadline is Nov. 22.
Castle Valley Center accepting wheelchairs, walkers – The center will write donation receipts for tax record for residents providing used wheelchairs, walkers, etc., to assist students in the Carbon-Emery area. Price Veterans Day ceremony – American Legion Post 3, VFW Post 2379 and Price Marine Corps League will present the ceremony Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Price Peace Garden. Veterans wishing to participate should be at the Peace Garden no later than 10:30 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
