The early afternoon winter sun peers through the trees while crossing the southern sky near the Fish Creek turnoff west of Scofield. To date, the percentage of water received in the Carbon County area registers below average due to the lack of continuous precipitation throughout the winter months. Currently, there is only 8.7 inches or 60 percent of average in the Mammoth-Cottonwood area. White River has only five inches of water for 52 percent average. Without additional precipitation, the county may face water shortages during summer 2002.
