The East Carbon Lady Vikings welcomed the Meridian Mongooses to town Tuesday night as the teams hit the hardwood floor for an evening of basketball fun.
The fun, however may have ended early on in the game for the Mongooses as the Viking held the team to under 20 points during the entire game. The Vikings defeated Meridian 44-16, boosting East Carbon to 10-4 for the season.
The defense of the Vikings was too much for the Mongooses to handle. The man-to-man coverage was at top form for the Vikings, picking up dozens of steals and twice as many rebounds, leading to several fast breaks for the team. The defensive pressure was just too much for the struggling Meridian team to handle.
The defensive, however was not the only deciding factor in the Vikings win. Alaena Preston lead the team in scoring with nine points. Following in scoring was Chelsey Timothy who finished with eight points, and Nicole Johnson completed seven points in the Vikings victorious game.
The only long distance shots made in the game came from East Carbon senior Elizabeth Dansie who completed two, three point shots boosting her total points scored to six for the evening.
The Vikings hope to continue their winning ways as the team hosts Wasatch Academy Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. at the East Carbon High School gym.
