Kathy Everett
PRICE – Our loving Kathy Everett, age 54, of Price, died suddenly in Price on Dec. 14, 2001.
She was born Feb. 24, 1947 in Ocala, Fla., to William Lee and Amelda Bullock Brown. She was married on May 6, 1975 to Kenneth Everett in Phoenix, Ariz. He passed away Oct. 1, 1994.
She enjoyed cooking, being with her friends, and loved to laugh. She lived in Price for over 20 years and enjoyed The Looking Glass, which was her home away from home.
She was a member of the LDS Church.
Kathy is survived by her children, Vicki (Ray Robertson) Brown, Price; Patty (Randy) Fletcher, Glendora, Calif.; Lyle (Lorinda) Brown, Wellington; Karen (Bart) Norton, Price; Kimmie (Jeff) Daniel, Nevada; 11 grandchildren, Rodney, Nathan, Kenny, Andrea, Brad, Chase, Josh, Shaelean, Harrison, Ryker and Hannah. Also survived by a sister, Vicky (John) Ritzau, Rhode Island; two brothers, Bill (Marcia) Brown, and Mike Bray, all of Nevada. She was preceded in death by parents; husband; and son, Richard.
Friends may call for a visitation at the Fausett Mortuary Wednesday, Dec. 19, 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral services will begin at the Fausett Mortuary Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment, Cleveland Cemetery.
Helen Ward
DELTA, Colo. – Helen R. Ward, age 76 of Austin, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Delta County Memorial Hospital, Delta, Colo.
She was born Jan. 23, 1925 in Spring Canyon to John and Mary (Rihtarsic) Koss. She married William R. Ward on March 11, 1946 in Elko, Nev. , later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cedaredge, Colo.
Mrs. Ward grew up in the Spring Canyon and Price area. She served as assistant county assessor for Carbon County from 1960 until 1970. She and her husband moved to Cory, Colo., in 1974, where she had lived since.
Mrs. Ward was an accomplished artist who enjoyed oil painting. She won many awards for her paintings in art shows.
She also greatly enjoyed gardening, bowling and golfing.
Mrs. Ward was always helping others in need and is going to be deeply missed by family and friends.
She is survived by husband, William Ward, Cory, Colo.; son, Joe and wife Karen Ward, Price; two daughters, Karen “Nikki” Young, Truckee, Calif.; Sandra and husband Wesley Morlang, Fruita, Colo.; sister, Katie Grandinetti, Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren, Bill, Lisa, Cory, John, Jodi, Stacie and Danyll. Ten great -grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, John Koss and Tony Koss; two sisters, Mary Strakey and Elizabeth Sherman; and son-in-law, John H. Young.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 19, 11 a.m., at Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta, Colo. Visitation will at Mesa View Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday, 10 to 11 a.m. A visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price, Thursday Dec. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Price 6th Ward LDS Church, 300 West 500 South. Grace Saccomanno
SPRING GLEN – Our loving wife, mother, grandmother and nunny, Grace Tallerico Sacco-manno, age 87, passed away into the loving arms of our Father on Dec. 12, 2001.
She was born Aug. 30, 1914 in Sunnyside, to Sam and Marie Antonia Lamanna Tallerico. Married Charlie Saccomanno Jan. 16, 1938 in Price. They spent the duration of their marriage in Spring Glen.
The center of her life was her family. Grace gave of herself unselfishly to those she held dear to her heart. Grace nurtured her family and taught them useful life skills to be drawn upon as they grew in life, and the delicious aroma of good food always met you at the door.
Even though our hearts are heavy and you will be dearly missed, you are finally free.
Grace was a member of the Catholic Church and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting with her friends.
Survived by husband, Charlie Saccomanno, Spring Glen; children, Marie (Cort) Lodder, Bountiful; Toni (Frank) Greco, Salt Lake City; Carole (Seldon) Barker, Spring Glen; Valerie (Joel) Stamatakis, Price; Ralph (Mickey) Saccomanno, Spring Glen; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Snyder; brother, Sam Tallerico Jr., both of Price; and brother, Tommy Tallerico, California. Preceded in death by parents, three sisters and five brothers.
Funeral Mass was Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Committal service, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Dewey Nordell
FERRON – Dewey Joe Nordell, age 84, passed away Dec. 9, 2001 at his home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1917 in Molen, to Albin J. and Delores Swasey Nordell. Married Gertrude C. Fredrickson Oct. 9, 1937. She died May 23, 1977. Married Anna Wilene Jewkes on July 27, 1990. She died March 13, 1992. Married Anna M. Kimball on April 6, 1999.
Dewey was a life long resident of Emery County, where he worked in various coal and uranium mines in southeastern Utah.
He loved his family and his great grandchildren, If there was a child in need of a “Grandpa”, it didn’t take them long to find Dewey. He loved the Sinbad Desert and sharing his memories of the time spent there with his granddad. He loved animals and he always had dogs, horses and sheep.
Words cannot express how much he will be missed by those of us who knew and loved him.
Survived by wife, Anna M. Nordell, Ferron; daughter, Sandy N. and Lee Grim, Ferron; two granddaughters, Cassie and Wade Jensen, Cleveland; Gina and Rudy Sacco, Spring Glen; five great- grandchildren; brothers, Ross and Virginia Nordell, Manti; Randy and Terrie Nordell, Bountiful; sisters, Echo and Bob Judd, Price; Lavonne and Don Gardner, Spring Glen; and Roma Powell, Huntington. Preceded in death by two infant sons; and brother, Harold “Buster” Nordell.
Private services will be held at a later date under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Waldo Gale
PRICE – Our beloved Waldo B. Gale, age 85, returned to his Heavenly Home Dec. 13, 2001 in Price.
He was born May 31, 1916 in Spanish Fork, to John Davis and Pearl Estella Beckstrom Gale. He married Mazel Grames Nov. 27, 1936 in Price, and was later scaled together in the Manti LDS Temple.
He enjoyed wood crafts, fishing and hunting, and growing fruits and vegetables and dehydrating them. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served as bishop of the Helper 1st Ward for eight years. He also served a mission in the Bishop Storehouse, bishopric member and many other positions during his life.
He is survived by wife, Mazel, Helper; children, Arlene Gale Begay, Price; Carol Gale (Gourdin) Olsen, Farmington; Waldo Dwight (Joyce) Gale, Denver, Colo.; Dwayne Waldo (Barbara) Gale, Helper; Pamela Gale Turner, Montrose, Colo.; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; and brother, John B. (Ruby), Roosevelt; and sister, Pearl Gale Gardner, Helper. He was preceded in death by parents, one brother and five sisters.
Friends may call for a visitation at the Fausett Mortuary in Price, Monday, Dec. 17, 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Helper LDS Stake Center, Tuesday, Dec. 18, 11 a.m. There will be a viewing at the church prior to services from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Vera Steele
‘Together again’
EAST CARBON CITY – Vera May Payne Steele, age 89, went home Dec. 15, 2001.
She was born May 6, 1912 in Butler, Okla. to William H. and Pearl Burgess Payne. She married Cleatis Odell Steele, June 23, 1929 in Moorewood, Okla. He left this life and went home June 27, 1994.
She was a resident of East Carbon City since 1944.
In her early years, mom loved to knit and crochet. She loved to sew and make dresses for her daughters. Mom also loved to travel all over to see the sights. She loved worked in her iris and rose garden. She loved having her family and grandchildren come to visit her. Next to her family the love of her life were her pets.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her suffering is over. Now she walks with the angels.
Survived by four daughters, one son and their spouses, Barbara Jean (Tony) Migliaccio, Helper; Kathryn Dean Mednick, Salt Lake City; Gwen (Harold) Dahl, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; Joyce Jaramillo, Desert Center, Calif.; Duane (Mary Lou) Steele, East Carbon; brother, Weldon Payne, Oklahoma; sister, Noreen Payne, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband; parents; brother, Lloyd Payne; and sister, Louis Barton.
Funeral service Thursday, Dec. 20, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Freda Tharp
EAST CARBON – Freda K. Boren Tharp, age 77, passed away Dec. 16, 2001 at her home in East Carbon.
She was born Aug. 9, 1924 in Vernal, to Alvin and Marie Amie Smuin. Married Darrell D. Boren July 1, 1944. He passed away in 1972. She later married Leo Tharp who also preceded in death in1992.
She loved the outdoors, fishing and camping with her family. She also loved doing crafts and was very good at it.
Survived by children, Darrell J. and Bonnie Boren, Ferron; Cathy Henningson, Bertha Summers, Lynda and LaMar Preston, Geraldine Rhett and Patricia and Pedro Gonzalez, all of East Carbon; William and Rhonda Boren, Lyman, Wyo.; Jackie and Mike Davis, Salina; Loraine and Joe Preston, Parachute, Colo.; Valaray and Guy Hampton, Rifle, Colo.; stepchildren, Willard Tharp, Jay Tharp, Dick Tharp, LeRoy Tharp and LouAnn Miller; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, Alvin Bud, Glen; two sisters, Juanita and Jackie. Preceded in death by two husbands and one brother.
Graveside services will be Friday, Dec. 21, 12 noon, in the Price City Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price.
