Gladys Saccomanno


SPRING GLEN – Gladys Kenner Saccomanno, age 89, passed away Feb. 12, 2007 at home while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 18, 1917 in Springville to Nathaniel “Bailey” and Hazel Mason Kenner. Her family moved to Helper where she later met and married Ernest Saccomanno on July 18, 1933; he passed away on Oct. 30, 1979.
Mom was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress. She assisted her husband operating the farm for many years.
She enjoyed long hikes in surrounding areas, viewing wildlife and the changing seasons. She also loved traveling, playing cards with family and friends, and was an avid reader. She loved her wonderful collection of clown figurines and pictures that she acquired over many years.
She is survived by children, Maryanne Biljanic, Midvale; Erna (Paul) Porter, Palm Desert, Calif.; Frances (Gary) Hanson, Frank (Lee) Saccomanno, both of Spring Glen; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Our mother was preceded in death by parents; husband, Ernest; granddaughter, Jean Porter; five siblings, Freda Kenner, Chris Compton, Mildred Morris, Bonnie Osoro and Boyd Kenner.
Memorial service Saturday, Feb. 17, 11 a.m., at Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 5 South Main, Helper, UT 84526.


Tommy Hovat


PRICE – Thomas John Hovat Jr., age 61, passed away suddenly from heart failure on Feb. 13, 2007.
He was born Feb. 7, 1946 in Price, to Thomas Hovat Sr. and Irene Daskalos. Married Patti Helsley in 1972 in Price. Later divorced. Together they had one son, Thomas Guy Gourdin who now resides in Salt Lake City.
Member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
He enjoyed sports and was an avid sports fan. In his younger years he played baseball on the Helper all-star teams.
He was a graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1964.
Tommy owned and operated the Carbon Barber Shop for many years, and he later worked for SiLobato at the Salt Lake Airport Barber Shop and at Atwood’s Barber Shop in Price.
He will be dearly missed by family, friends and many longtime patrons.
Survived by mother, Irene Hovat, Helper; brothers, Michael Hovat, Spring Glen; Nick Hovat, Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Mary Katherine (Keary) Tonks, Pocatello, Idaho; Christy Rich, Price; and loving nieces and nephews, Roy and Monnica Rich, Erica (Brandon) VanZant, Nicole and Michael Hovat Jr., Brandon (Kenda) Gadish, and Mandy Gadish. Preceded in death by grandparents; and father, Thomas Hovat Sr.
Funeral services Saturday, Feb. 17, 11 a.m., at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Price. Trisagion service Friday evening, 7 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price city cemetery.


Randy Krompel


PRICE – Randy Lynn Krompel, 52, passed away suddenly Feb. 13, 2007 at his home.
He was born Feb. 17, 1954 in Price to William and Leah Olsen Krompel. Married Nancy Russell in Wellington. Later divorced.
Member of the LDS Church. Lifelong resident of Carbon County and former employee of U.S. Fuel at Hiawatha. Randy enjoyed being on the farm, working the land and seeing things grow. He enjoyed being around and caring for animals. He liked camping and being in the outdoors.
Survived by parents, William and Leah, loving daughter, KaRanda; three brothers, William D. (Joni), Rick L. (Debbie), Kerry Lee, all of Price; sister, Sherry (Todd) Larsen, St. George; and four daughters, Tammy Michele, Valerie Lynn, Misty Sue, and Tresha Kay. Preceded in death by brother, Ronny; and grandparents.
Graveside service Saturday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m., at Cliffview Cemetery in Price under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home, Price.
