It’s that time of year when the snow begins to fly, Christmas is just around the corner and Helper’s very own Utah’s Christmas Town Festival kicks off the holiday season for thousands of local residents and visitors.
This annual tradition begins with the Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair Friday and Saturday Nov. 21 and 22. Held in the Helper Auditorium, the arts and crafts fair features fine quality handmade crafts and gift items for everyone on a Christmans list. This year there will be food from the Helper Cafe and numerous goodie booths to satisify every persons sweet tooth.
During the two day arts and crafts fair several groups will be on hand to provide the best in holiday entertainment. This year will showcase the talents of the Pinnacle Canyon Choir, the Helper Jr. High Choir, the Helper Jr. High Jazz Band, Jessica Turcasso, Shylie Richardson, Mekette Konakis, Lacy Stevens, Megan Sherman, Megan Black, BreAnna Hurdsman, the Carbon High School Vocal Jazz, the Crystal Ordner Singing Group and Expressions Ballet directed by Anique Welch and Patti Pinedo.
On Saturday, Nov. 22 be sure to stop by and see Santa Claus. He will be posing for pictures from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
New to the Utah’s Christmas Town Festival is a silent auction. The auction will begin at the Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair and conclude during the annual chili dinner held December 5 and 6. Participants can bid on a variety of items including handmade gifts and antiques. Winners will be notified by phone the week of December 8.
All the holiday fun continues with the annual candlelight walk and lights on ceremony held Friday, Nov. 28. Beginning at St. Anthony’s Church and concluding at Helper City Hall, the Candlelight Walk draws people to the heart of Helper’s historic Main Street where thousands of lights bathe the town in the Christmas spirit. After the ceremony follow Santa back to the Helper Auditorium where he and the Helper Lions Club will hear the Christmas wishes of little boys and girls.
The Festival concludes with the annual Chili Dinner and Electric Light Parade held Friday and Saturday Dec. 5 and 6. The Chili Dinner will be held in the Helper Auditorium both nights before the parade begins.
After the chili dinner the famous Electric Light Parade makes its way down Helper’s Main Street. This annual tradition is loved by all who attend and this year’s parade promises to be the best ever. Come early and enjoy all that Helper has to offer on its historic Main Street.
On Saturday, Dec. 6 the Utah’s Christmas Town Festival comes to a close with the Grand Finale Fireworks display. Timed to Christmas music, the fireworks will begin immediately after the parade and will be visible from anywhere in Helper. These pyrotechnics are a perfect end to the festival and the perfect beginning to a great holiday season.
