Michelle Ruden makes a quick catch to send a Spanish Fork runner back to the dugout during a game played earlier this season. Ruden has had a successful season with the Dinos and hit a home run against Delta on Tuesday. Carbon was able to capture their first victory of the season against the Rabbits by the final score, 10-4. |
The Carbon High softball team has been traveling a rocky road throughout the Region 8 season this year. The team has struggled to capture a victory during the regular season and with only one week remaining, the Dinos were able to claim a win.
Victory came Tuesday afternoon as the Lady Dinos travelled to Delta to take on region foes, the Rabbits.
Carbon played well and was careful not to allow the Rabbits to capitalize on any Dino errors or mistakes. The effort paid off and Carbon defeated Delta, 10-4.
The Lady Dinos kicked the game off strong by scoring four quick runs. Delta was only able to answer with one run of their own during the first inning.
Momentum was on Carbon’s side as they scored four more runs in the top of the fourth. The Rabbits then scored two runs in the inning and one in the bottom of the fifth.
This would be the end of the Rabbits rally, but the Dinos were not through. The team managed to score two more runs in the seventh as they claimed their first Region 8 season victory.
Carbon had a lot of help from its hitters during the match up as Michelle Ruden hit a home run and also a double.
Also successful at bat was Brittany Pollastro who also hit the ball hard and chalked up a home run.
The teams first victory was a long time coming, but did not come as a surprise for the team. Despite struggling to claim a win, the team has shown many improvements and continued to hang on strong. Their determination and hard work is obvious each time they take to the field.
Carbon hosted Grand on Wednesday as they concluded the regular season.
