Carbon County residents cheer the local contingent of the 1457th construction battalion as the recently activated military unit prepares to leave for Salt Lake last Friday.
The military personnel boarded a bus at the Utah National Guard armory, then proceeded down Veterans Lane and continued along 400 North before traveling on to 100 North in preparation to enter the freeway.
Residents lined the streets to wish the guardsmen well.
Price police personnel and city fire units as well as cruisers from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office accompanied the bus through town, blowing sirens and flashing red lights.
After reaching Helper, the bus was greeted by the city’s fire and police departments.
Hundreds of residents and school children lined the roadways, waving flags and banners.
Inclement weather did not dissuade residents from turning out to wish the guardsmen well and show that the community cares about Carbon County’s men in uniform.
