Pinnacle volleyball defeated the Utah Military Academy-Camp Williams Thunderbirds 3-1 Friday at home.
Coming off a tough defeat last week against Tintic, the Panthers got their first home win of the season in the non-region contest against the Thunderbirds.
The Panthers took control in the beginning of the game and cruised to a 25-17 first set win.
“It was really important to get that first set victory because it set the tone for the game,” said Pinnacle Head Coach Heidi Kay.
Utah Military would start the second set off with a hot start leading the Panthers by 8-2.
The Thunderbirds would finish the second set with a 7-1 run to win the set 25-18 and tie the game at 1-1.
Pinnacle would bounce back however thanks to great team chemistry and energy to win the third set 25-8 to take a commanding 2-1 lead. At one point in the third set the Panthers led 19-5 and were not slowing down.
“We were excited, we wanted to win and worked more as a team than we did last game,” said Pinnacle Sophomore Angel Welch.
The Panthers would finish off the Thunderbirds in the fourth set with an impressive 25-15 set win.
Coach Kay said after the game that the success in the final two sets was due to each player’s effort and them doing their jobs.
