Helper man, 60, faces child sex abuse charges

A 60-year-old Helper man allegedly admitted to police he inappropriately touched a juvenile female under the age of 14 on more than one occasion.
Marrion Ray Haigler was arrested on July 9 and booked into the Carbon County Jail on first degree felony charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
His alleged victim told a forensic interviewer at the Division of Child and Family Services in June that Haigler had abused her from the time she was 10 years-old until she was about 13. She told the interviewer the abuse occurred on 10 to 15 occasions.
During a police interview, Haigler allegedly admitted he used his hands on at least two occasions to make inappropriate contact with the victim, in an attempt to “make her feel good,” according to a probable cause statement filed in District Court. Haigler also allegedly admitted he made a “stupid mistake” during the interview.
After the interview, Haigler was placed under arrest and taken into custody in lieu of $75,000 bail.
He appeared in District Court for an initial appearance on Aug. 20.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Oct. 19.
