Carbon volleyball picked up their first home win of the season on Tuesday night against Region 14 foe Maeser Prep.
The Dinos swept the Lions 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-20) in a game that gives Carbon Head Coach Teresa Mower her first home win at the helm.
“It is awesome to have a win on the home court, we did it in three. They beat us last year in five at both home and away games,” said Mower.
They might have swept the Lions in three but it didn’t come easy in the first set.
At one point the Dinos led Maeser Prep 12-4 in the first set before allowing their opponent to capitalize off their mistakes and made it a close set.
“Our first set shouldn’t have been close. We hurt ourselves with our own mistakes, we tried to get a little bit fancier on offense and we kind of didn’t play the way we wanted to play,” said Mower.
In the second set the Dinos let their guard down and didn’t let up according to Mower.
The Dinos dominated the second set and outscored the Lions 10-3 to close out the set.
“At the beginning, we did well but we kind of lost our energy and made silly mistakes. We got back up, came together and shook off our mistakes,” said Carbon senior Alex Milovich.
It was a good night for Milovich individually, she led the Dinos with an impressive 12 digs.
Those digs by Milovich helped the Dinos take care of business in the third set and close out the Lions.
“On serve-receive I got my passes up right to the setter which is very important so we can get a good set and hit,” said Milovich.
Milovich’s passes led to great games for fellow teammates McKenna Leonard and Gracie Salas who had eight and five kills respectively.
Tuesday’s win was a solid teammate effort with each player stepping up and contributing at the right time at their position throughout the match.
After the game, Mower said that she has seen a difference in her team since their first home game of the season back on August 22 against Emery.
“We have been able to work on those things we were lacking in and I feel like everyone has gotten better at playing their positions. They kind of have been more relaxed and comfortable playing their positions,” said Mower.
Carbon now has a 2-3 record and a 1-0 record in Region 14 play.
The Dinos will head to Nephi this Thursday for a game against Juab at 6:30.
