Price Main Street will close on Saturday for the first annual Chalk Main Street, a day of family fun, food, music, entertainment, and the opportunity for everyone to decorate downtown’s sidewalks with their own chalk art.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. during which time Main street will close from Carbon Avenue to 100 East.
Chalk Main Street is made possible by Main Street businesses working together, and is sponsored by R&R Designz, The Artz Center, and KUSA FM 100.
Jen Perkins, owner of R&R Designz and The Artz Center, said this is going to be a big event that brings people into downtown to shop, play, and reacquaint the community with the stores and businesses on Main Street.
“We want people to come and have a great time, and get to know some of the new businesses, or shop at others people may not have visited for a while,” she said. “There is so much here for our community members, and I think people will realize there is a good reason to come to downtown, and save themselves a trip over the mountain.”
Perkins said there will be something for everyone. There will be a free raffle with prizes donated by many businesses including Edgy Bling, Hometown Flooring, Office Etc., Coffee Shop, Apple County Crafts, Party Express, Price Family Pharmacy. Limitless Ink will provide face painting, there will be music and free entertainment, and bouncy houses provided by KUSA.
Jayline Gardner, owner of Hometown Flooring, said she is excited for the opportunity to be a part of revitalizing downtown.
“We are here to serve the community and want people to take advantage of our local businesses,” she said.
Perkins will be dancing with kids at 1:30 p.m. in front of Tougher, 77 East Main Street. She will be teaching them fun dances like the Whip and Nae Nae, and all kids can participate for free.
The Artz Center will provide one free craft for kids, and there will be chalk on sale for $2, or families can bring their own.
“We want this to be the first of many events for the community on Main Street,” Gardner said. “We want the city to see downtown as the center for events and activities.”
