Four tourists travelling northbound to Salt Lake City were lucky to avoid serious injury when they lost control of their vehicle and ended up in the Price River.
Apparently the driver decided to exit onto Poplar Street in Helper at the last minute, taking the turn too quickly and losing control of the car.
After travelling about 25-35 feet, the vehicle veered off the road by the Helper sign, just before the bridge. It rolled down the embankment and into the river, where it overturned and floated downstream for about 50-70 yards, according to Highway Patrolman Levi Oman.
Fortunately the car got tangled up in a tree and the occupants were able to escape through the passenger door which flew open during the crash.
Remarkably only one passenger sustained a minor injury, a cut foot.
No citations were issued for Thursday’s accident, which occurred around 12:50pm. The vehicle was pulled out of the river by Landon’s Diesel Service.
“The only ones with a long enough winch,” said Patrolman Oman. The damaged vehicle was transported to C&T Towing in Price. Carbon County Sheriff’s and the Helper Fire Department assisted with the rescue.
