Defense shows promise in 14-14 tie game; four fumbles spell ball control work ahead for Dinos

“I couldn’t be happier with a 14-14 tie, it shows that both sides were doing their job, and playing well,” said Coach Joshua Huntsman as the Blue and White game came to a close on Friday night.
The game started with the White team jumping out to a 14-0 lead led by Jaylon Dennis, who returned an interception 70 yards for the first score of the game.
Dennis was all over the field on Friday night.
He played quarterback, safety and running back. When asked about playing multiple positions, Dennis said, “If coach Huntsman or any of the coaches ask me to do something, I’m there. I’ll do anything they ask me to do and be willing to learn and I’ll be excited to play the position.”
When coach Huntsman was asked about Dennis and his ability to play multiple positions here’s what he said: “Anytime we can get Jaylon with the ball in space we have a good chance of scoring. He’s one of those dynamic players. He makes really good reads and jump cuts. He runs downhill and he runs downhill hard.”
The Blue team got back into it with two long runs by Davis Moss and Riley King. Moss’s was a 55-yard touchdown sprint.
Both the Blue and White team stood out with the guys they had on the defensive line. Anthony Madrgial, Colin Lewis and McCade Bradley caused havoc in the offensive backfields all night long.
“Anytime you have a 260-pound defensive lineman, it really helps your cause. If those guys can continue to get into the gaps and create pressure on quarterbacks, you can do a lot of damage on the back end. If those guys can plug the holes and make sure the running lanes are closed, we’ll be fairly good defensively.”
The only negative from the Blue and White matchup was the four fumbles in the game.
Coach Huntsman was asked if that was a concern heading into next week against Manti :
“We’re going to work some ball control drills, make sure our kids hold onto it. We know those plays are momentum killers and they kill drives for you. We’ll definitely get back to fundamentals with our ball control. You’ll see completely different ways of carrying the ball next week.”
Carbon takes on the Manti Templers next Friday night at Carbon High.
