Imaginations wanted: City seeks public input on General Plan

The Helper Planning and Zoning Commission is inviting citizens to bring their imaginations and ideas to a public hearing Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in Civic Auditorium to work on revising the city’s general plan.
City planners have been working with regional and state specialists, and now want to collect ideas from the public.
In addition to general suggestions, wordsmiths can try their skill at revising the city’s motto and vision statement.
The motto should be 10 words or less. The current one is “The Gateway to Castle Country.”
The vision statement is longer, 50 words or less, and more detailed in scope. The current vision statement is: “We, the citizens of Helper City, valuing our heritage as a mining and railroad center and our unique cultural diversity, will promote the values of historic preservation, beauty, and recreational opportunities, economic diversity, stability and promotion, and community involvement to direct the future growth and development of Helper City.”
Citizen involvement and investment have already had a transformational effect on the city’s appearance, economic activity and community activities. The plan is intended to promote continued development along generally accepted community values and public health and safety.
