Tapia says she accepted sales position at local GM dealership
Jamill Tapia will be stepping down as executive director of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, she announced Friday.
Tapia has worked at the chamber for about two and a half years. She started as an assistant before taking the reins as executive director about six months into the job.
Her assistant director, Deserae Stevenson, tearfully made the announcement Friday during a luncheon at Castleview Hospital.
Tapia said she accepted a position at Tony Basso GM as a sales person.
“There’s always going to be job offers and positions with other businesses. There have been things turned down in the past,” Tapia said. “Not that there wasn’t quality in that position that was offered, I just never felt it was the right time. Because I felt like my job hadn’t been done with the chamber.”
Tapia said she was ready for new challenges and opportunities.
Ryan Murray, the chamber’s president, said he was happy for Tapia.
“They totally head hunted her,” he said. “She has talent and they were looking for talented people.”
Murray said Tapia’s skills had developed immensely in her time at the chamber.
“I congratulate her on all she’s accomplished,” he said.
Tapia has most recently led the effort to move the chamber of commerce into new offices at the Carbon County Administration building. She’s also led a movement to get the chamber more involved in tourism efforts.
She says Stevenson will have no problems leading the chamber after she departs.
“The chamber is in good hands. I am proud I did a good job training her. She’ll do great,” Tapia said, calling themselves “the dynamic duo.”
